We had a very successful completion rate of 99% our fall parent/teacher conferences. It is our goal to have 100% participation in the fall and spring conferences, so if you have not yet had a fall conference, please contact your child’s teacher to set a time and date. As always, thank you for participating in this process and actively showing your support for your child’s education. It is important to us and it is very important to your child.

Thinking of Parent/Teacher Conferences....
Unity
I dreamed I stood in a studio and watched two sculptors there, the clay they used was a young child’s mind and they fashioned it with care. And when at last their work was done, they were proud of what they had wrought, for the things they had worked into the child could never be sold or bought.
And each agreed she would have failed if she had worked alone,
for behind the parent stood the school and behind the teacher stood the home.

Roosevelt Roadrunner Club Family Night
Last night, our Roadrunner Club Family Night was a wonderful event! The children and their families participated in different fall centers which included a pumpkin math center, a fall literature center, and a pumpkin decorating center. We were able to enjoy great food, fun learning, and community building. Thank you to Liz Southmayd, our RRC Director for 21st Century, the RRC staff, and Shannon Miner, our Family Resource Center Director, for their organization and dedication resulting in a delightful evening for all.
Great Questions to Ask at Parent/Teacher Conferences
Getting ready for your child’s conference…
Here are some great questions to ask at your conference:
1. Is my child performing at a proficient level (up to standard) in basic skills? If not, is my child above or below? How can I help? If it’s below, ask: What is your plan for helping my child catch up? How can I help?
2. What do my child’s test scores show? What are his or her strengths and goal areas?
3. Can we go over some examples of my child’s work?
4. Does my child need extra help in any area; including adjusting to school? What do you recommend? How can we work together to help my child?
5. Does my child do all the assigned work, including homework? How can I assure that this happens?
6. Does my child seem to like school and get along with classmates?
7. Have you noticed any changes in my child over the year?

Parent/Teacher Conferences Are Here!
Parent/teacher conferences are here! The conference report includes end of year expectations at each grade level in the areas of language arts, math, science, social studies, work habits, and social development. There is space for narrative comments and a checklist to explain your child’s progress and goals. Children are assessed using the following scale:
– Consistently: engaging in behavior most of the time
– Some of the Time: engaging in the behavior, but not with regularity
– With Support: engaging in behavior only with the assistance or guidance of the teacher or other instructional staff
– Not Applicable: the behaviors have not yet been taught
We feel it is important to note that in the fall and spring it is likely you will see “Not Applicable” checked in various content areas. We would emphasize that this simply means these behaviors or skills have not yet been taught. Before the year comes to an end, these behaviors and skills are taught and by the final report date you should see the first three descriptors in all categories.
Finally, this report will contain a section labeled, “Specific Agreements and Recommendations.” This is a section that summarizes the agreements and recommendations that you and your child’s teacher discuss during the conference.
It is our goal to have 100% participation in the fall and spring conferences. If you have not had a chance to sign up for a conference time yet, please contact your child’s teacher to set a time and date. As always, thank you for participating in this process and actively showing your support for your child’s education. It is important to us and it is very important to your child. We look forward to seeing you soon!
